और राम और कृष्ण, कानून के उपदेशों में सीखे हुए, इच्छा करते हैं, तो पांडवों को वहां जाना चाहिए। मनुष्यों में वे दो बाघ सदैव उसी काम में लगे रहते हैं जो उनके लिए अच्छा है।"
Yudhiṣṭhira said: "O king! My followers and I are now dependent on you. We will do that which you tell us is for our own good."
युधिष्ठिर ने कहा: "हे राजा! मेरे अनुयायी और मैं अब आप पर निर्भर हैं। आप जो कहेंगे हम वही करेंगे जो हमारी भलाई के लिए है।"

वैशंपायन उवाच ततोऽब्रवीद्वासुदेवो गमनं मम रोचते यथा वा मन्यते राजा द्रुपदः सर्वधर्मवित्
Vaiśampāyana said: At that, Vāsudeva said, "I am of the view that they should go. But we must go by what King Drupada, who knows everything about the law, suggests."

इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि कुंती के परम भाग्यशाली पुत्र, पांडु के पुत्र, अब मुझे भी उतने ही प्रिय हैं जितने स्वयं वासुदेव को हैं।
Yudhiṣṭhira, Kuntī's son and the son of Dharma, himself does not seek their welfare as muc as Keśava, tiger among men, does."
कुंती के पुत्र और धर्म के पुत्र युधिष्ठिर स्वयं उनका उतना कल्याण नहीं चाहते जितना मनुष्यों में बाघ केशव चाहते हैं।"
Vaiśampāyana said: Then the great-souled Drupada gave them leave to depart. The Pāṇḍava-s, Kṛṣṇā and the extremely wise Vidūra left
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: तब महाबली द्रुपद ने उन्हें प्रस्थान करने की आज्ञा दे दी। पांडव, कृष्ण और अत्यंत बुद्धिमान विदुर चले गए
and took with them Draupadī Kṛṣṇā and the illustrious Kuntī, and with pleasure and a leisurely pace, travelled towards the city of Hāstinapura.
और द्रौपदी कृष्ण और महामहिम कुंती को अपने साथ लिया और प्रसन्नतापूर्वक और इत्मीनान से हस्तिनापुर शहर की ओर चल पड़े।
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! On hearing that the warriors were coming, Kaurava Dhṛtarāṣṭra sent the Kauravas to receive the Pāṇḍava-s —

Dear to the hearts of the people, the Pāṇḍava-s heard loud exclamations from the citizens, always eager to do what was dear to them.
लोगों के दिलों में प्रिय, पांडवों ने नागरिकों से ऊंचे उद्घोष सुने, जो हमेशा वही करने के लिए उत्सुक थे जो उन्हें प्रिय था।

"The tiger among men, the one of righteous conduct, has returned. He always protected us with the rule of law, as if we were his near relatives.
"पुरुषों के बीच का बाघ, धार्मिक आचरण वाला, वापस आ गया है। उसने हमेशा कानून के शासन से हमारी रक्षा की, जैसे कि हम उसके करीबी रिश्तेदार थे।
It seems without doubt as if the great King Pāṇḍu, who loved the forest, has returned today from the forest, to do that which pleases us and is good for our welfare.

If we have given alms and sacrificial offerings, if we have performed austerities, let the Pāṇḍava-s remain in the city for a hundred autumns."

Then they bowed at the feet of Dhṛtarāṣṭra and the great soul of Bhīṣma and others

They worshipped the feet of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Bhīṣma and others who deserved it, and asking about the welfare of everyone in the city, entered the place earmarked for them at Dhṛtarāṣṭra's command.

When those immensely strong and great souls had rested for some time, they were summoned by King Dhṛtarāṣṭra and the son of Śāntanu.

न च वो वसतस्तत्र कश्चिच्छक्तः प्रबाधितुम् संरक्ष्यमाणान्पार्थेन त्रिदशानिव वज्रिणा अर्धं राज्यस्य संप्राप्य खाण्डवप्रस्थमाविश
No one can harm you there, if you are protected there by Pārtha, as the thirty gods are by the wielder of the vajra. Go to Khāṇḍavaprastha and take half the kingdom."
यदि आप वहां पार्थ द्वारा सुरक्षित हैं, जैसे तीस देवता वज्रधारी द्वारा संरक्षित हैं, तो कोई भी आपको नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा सकता है। खाण्डवप्रस्थ जाओ और आधा राज्य ले लो।”
Vaiśampāyana said: Those bulls among men accepted the king's words and saluting everyone set out for that terrible forest. Having received half the kingdom, they entered Khāṇḍavaprastha.
वैशम्पायन ने कहाः उन नर बैलों ने राजा की बात मान ली और सबको प्रणाम करके उस भयानक वन की ओर प्रस्थान किया। आधा राज्य प्राप्त करके वे खाण्डवप्रस्थ में चले गये।
With Kṛṣṇā leading them, the invincible Pāṇḍava-s went there and made it as beautiful a place as heaven.
कृष्ण के नेतृत्व में, अजेय पांडव वहां गए और उसे स्वर्ग के समान सुंदर स्थान बना दिया।
Led by Dvaipāyana, the mahāratha-s selected a pure and holy place, performed propitiatory ceremonies and measured out the land for a city.

वह बादलों की तरह सफेद और बर्फ से ढके पहाड़ों की तरह था। यह महानतम नगर नागों की भोगवती के समान देदीप्यमान था।
It was protected by terrible double-doored gates that were like two-winged Gāruḍa-s. The high towers were like dense clouds, like many Mandāra mountains.
यह दो पंखों वाले गरुड़ के समान भयानक दो दरवाजों वाले द्वारों से सुरक्षित था। ऊँची मीनारें घने बादलों की तरह, कई मंदार पर्वतों की तरह थीं।
It was well covered with many weapons, with sharp spears and javelins like double-tongued snakes and impenetrable to the weapons of enemies. The splendid and spiralling turrets were guarded by warriors and well stocked with weapons of attack.
वह कई हथियारों से अच्छी तरह से ढका हुआ था, जिसमें दो जीभ वाले सांपों की तरह तेज भाले और भाले थे और दुश्मनों के हथियारों के लिए अभेद्य था। शानदार और सर्पिल बुर्जों की रक्षा योद्धाओं द्वारा की जाती थी और हमले के हथियारों से अच्छी तरह से भंडारित किया जाता था।
There were many sharp hooks and śataghnī-s and other weapons of war. Great iron cakra-s adorned that best of cities.
वहाँ अनेक पैने कांटे, शतघ्नी और युद्ध के अन्य हथियार थे। लोहे के महान चक्र उस श्रेष्ठ नगर को सुशोभित करते थे।
The streets were wide and well laid out, preventing collisions among large chariots. It shone with many beautiful white mansions.
सड़कें चौड़ी और अच्छी तरह से बनाई गई थीं, जिससे बड़े रथों के बीच टकराव को रोका जा सके। यह कई खूबसूरत सफेद हवेलियों से जगमगा उठा।
Like a mās-s of dense clouds circled by lightning and reflecting the image of heaven, it came to be known as Indraprastha.
बिजली से घिरे घने बादलों के समूह की तरह और स्वर्ग की छवि को प्रतिबिंबित करते हुए, इसे इंद्रप्रस्थ के नाम से जाना जाने लगा।
"In that lovely and beautiful place was the dwelling of the Kaurava-s. It was full of every kind of treasure, like the palace of the treasurer himself.
"उस सुंदर और सुंदर स्थान में कौरवों का निवास था। वह कोषाध्यक्ष के महल की तरह हर तरह के खजाने से भरा हुआ था।
O king! Brāhmana-s, the best of those who knew all the Veda-s, went there. It was a desired habitation for those who knew all the tongues.
हे राजा! सभी वेदों को जानने वालों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण वहां गए। यह उन लोगों के लिए एक वांछित निवास स्थान था जो सभी भाषाएँ जानते थे।
Desiring to earn wealth, many merchants from every direction went there. Desirous of living there, came many artisans of every craft.
धन कमाने की इच्छा से हर दिशा से बहुत से व्यापारी वहां गये। वहाँ रहने की इच्छा से हर कला के अनेक कारीगर आये।

always adorned with flowers and fruit and swarming with many different kinds of birds. There echoed the calls of frenzied peacocks and delighted cuckoos.
सदैव फूलों और फलों से सुशोभित और विभिन्न प्रकार के पक्षियों से भरा हुआ। वहाँ उन्मत्त मोरों और प्रसन्न कोयल की ध्वनि गूँज रही थी।
There were houses that were as white as mirrors and bowers full of creepers. There were artificial hillocks designed to bring pleasure. There were ponds filled with clear water
वहाँ ऐसे घर थे जो दर्पण के समान श्वेत थे और लता-मंडपों से भरे हुए थे। आनंद लाने के लिए डिज़ाइन की गई कृत्रिम पहाड़ियाँ थीं। वहाँ साफ़ पानी से भरे तालाब थे
and charming lakes that were fragrant with lotuses and water lilies and adorned with many swans, geese and cakravāka birds.
और आकर्षक झीलें जो कमल और जल कुमुदिनी से सुगंधित थीं और कई हंसों, गीज़ और चक्रवाक पक्षियों से सुशोभित थीं।

The beautiful ponds were surrounded by many trees and there were many beautiful and large tanks.
सुन्दर तालाब अनेक वृक्षों से घिरे हुए थे तथा अनेक सुन्दर एवं बड़े तालाब थे।

O great king! Living in that large kingdom populated by holy people, the joy of the Pāṇḍava-s continued to increase eternally.
हे महान राजा! पवित्र लोगों से भरे उस बड़े राज्य में रहते हुए, पांडवों का आनंद हमेशा बढ़ता रहा।
Thus, because of the righteous conduct of Bhīṣma and the king, the Pāṇḍava-s came to live in Khāṇḍavaprastha.
इस प्रकार, भीष्म और राजा के धार्मिक आचरण के कारण, पांडव खांडवप्रस्थ में रहने आये।
With the five great archers, each like an Indra, that best of cities was adorned like Bhogavatī of the nāga-s.
पाँच महान धनुर्धरों से, जिनमें से प्रत्येक एक इन्द्र के समान था, वह श्रेष्ठ नगर नागों की भोगवती के समान सुशोभित था।
O king! Having settled them there and taking the consent of the Pāṇḍava-s, the brave Keśava, with Rāma, then went to Dvāravatī.
हे राजा! उन्हें वहाँ बसाकर और पांडवों की सहमति लेकर, वीर केशव, राम के साथ, द्वारवती चले गये।
